Weekend Update!
The fun, games and excitement from Fair Grounds’ opening day continue over the weekend, and the Stidham stable’s looking for a slice of that glory!
But first, let’s take a look at a lovely winner for the stable from Thursday, when the Godolphin owned 2yo Walhalla made it third-time lucky under Mitchell Merrill, showing great fortitude to prevail by a head.
This son of Frosted can be expected to improve again from this effort, and so, keep en eye out for this iconically-named horse running in those iconic silks!
And now for the weekend’s big-race runners.
Today, Pixelate is drawn 1 of 8 in the $75,000 Bob F. Wright Memorial Stakes, a turf contest run over 1 and 1/16th miles. With an incredible year under his belt already (he won the G3 WinStar Mint Million Stakes two starts ago), Pixelate is a 2/1 shot to do the business under Angel Suarez.
Tomorrow at Del Mar, the equally wonderful Princess Grace is gunning for her first G1 victory win the $400,000 Matriarch Stakes, a mile on the turf. As consistent as she is talented, Princess Grace is an 8/5 shot on the Morning Line with Kent Desormeaux on board.
