Weekend Update!
The Stidham stable’s looking to keep the good momentum going this weekend with a top notch runner looking for another big race victory at Gulfstream Park.
Before we take a look at the barn entries over the next few days, however, let’s cast our minds back a week to the fantastic return after some 10 months off of Godolphin’s Proxy, who completely outclassed his rivals in an allowance optional claimer at Fair Grounds.
A little sticky at the start, Proxy was ridden patiently by Brian Hernandez, looming into contention down the home straight before hitting the front at the furlong pole and drawing away to win by nearly four lengths.
During the early half of last year, Proxy looked a possible Kentucky Derby contender, finishing good seconds in the G3 Lecomte Stakes and the G2 Risen Star. His final run last year was a 4th in the G3 Lexington Stakes in April.
Given all the time he needed to be 100% right, Proxy showed last week that he’ll be a force to reckon with this year in the older division, and this 4-year-old son of Tapit sure is one to keep on the right side of!
As to tomorrow, the multiple graded-stakes winning Alms is drawn 7 of 11 in the $150,000 G3 Honey Fox Stakes, over a mile on the Gulfstream Park turf. Joel Rosario takes the ride on the 5-year-old daughter of City Zip, who was second last time out in the G3 Pegasus World Cup Filly and Mare Turf Invitational Stakes. Alms is a 7-2 shot on the Morning Line.
