Giving Alms!

Godolphin’s wonderful mare, Alms, added to her already impressive record with a tough-as-teak victory in the $400,000 Pepsi One Dreamer Stakes at Kentucky Downs on Wednesday.

This five-year-old daughter of City Zip was ridden patiently by jockey Jose Ortiz, settled off the pace before gradually making her move around the far turn, relentless down the straight to prevail by a nose at the wire.

A multiple graded stakes winner, Alms hasn’t found herself in the winner’s circle since February of 2020 when she claimed the Shantel Lanerie Memorial Overnight Stakes at Fair Grounds. But she’s run any number of fine races since, and this victory has pushed her career earnings a notch below the $625,000 mark.

And now for the next few days, which includes Jeanie B’s participation in the $400,000 G2 Masters Stakes at Presque Isle Downs on Monday. Drawn 9 of 11 in the 6 1/2 furlong sprint on the All Weather, Jeanie B is an 8-1 shot under Antonio Gallardo to gain a first graded stakes victory.

Here’s the rest of the stable’s entries:

Sunday

Jubilee Bridge – Race 8, Allowance

Monday

Presque Isle Downs
Sal’s Blue Jacket – Race 3, Maiden Special Weight
Oldfields – Race 3, Maiden Special Weight
