Proxy Perfect!
What a sensational performance Proxy put up yesterday in the $750,000 G1 Clark Stakes at Churchill Downs to give connections yet another victory at the top table!
Ridden confidently by Joel Rosario, the Godolphin home-bred Proxy was always at the head of affairs, and knuckled down to it in the home straight to repel the challenge of the Brad Cox-trained West Will Power.
“I think Joel (Rosario) knew from riding (West Will Power) last time in the Fayette that he would show early speed again,” Stidham said, immediately after the race. “When he broke as sharp as he did, he didn’t take position away from him. I was confident he’d have enough left in the stretch by his pedigree. “
On Saturday morning, Stidham extolled Proxy’s tremendously gutsy and brave performance, and mentioned once again a potential early season target next year, the G1 Dubai World Cup. which connections captured in 2021 with the outstanding Mystic Guide.
“I’m delighted for everyone involved,” said Stidham. “He’s always been a horse with an enormous amount of talent, and for him to have put it all together to win at this level is just so tremendously rewarding. He’s a proper horse.”
With this valuable G1 now under his belt, Proxy almost pushed his career earnings over the $1 million mark.
Proxy hasn’t been the only nice winner for connections these past few days. The Godolphin-homebred Purrfect made it two wins out of four yesterday with a barnstorming performance at Fair Grounds. This well-bred 3-year-old is still on the improve, and is another exciting sort for the meet ahead.
